Life Lesson #216 ~ Live the Way You Want To Be Remembered

Image
“Fear is a reaction. Courage is a decision.” ~ Winston S. Churchill Life is full of ‘wait a minute vines’ as my daddy has always said. All you have to do is walk outside to learn this lesson. Just take a stroll down the street or around the corner and something or someone is bound to snag, grab or trip you up one way or another. Just making the choice to open your front door every morning is a chance. If my daddy has taught me anything in my near 45 years it’s this: inhale courage and exhale fear. My daddy was a lifetime soldier. He jumped out of planes with the 82nd Airborne. As a child I thought he had no fear. I watched him wear his uniform with pride. I was in aww of his wings. I loved when he walked out the door with his Green Beret on. In my eyes he's always been a man's man. My boys would tell you their Paw Paw is a bad ----. And though those aren't the words I'd chose, they are right..He really is. But he's also funny, kind, humble, loving and gracio...

Life Lesson #207 ~ Tall Tales

“Lying won’t erase the truth, it can only delay it’s discovery.” ~Unknown I realize I talk a lot about my growing up years. My daddy called me Motor Mouth as a little girl. So yes, I talk a lot. And I write a lot too. I suppose that’s largely due to my upbringing. I've had quite the adventures if I do say so myself. My childhood was full of up and at 'em kind of days. Memories, I sopped up like a biscuit to gravy to be honest. And for a writer that's never a bad thing. I’ve certainly enjoyed my share of interesting humdingers along the way, that’s for sure. I can’t say I haven’t seen the world because I have. I’ve lived all around the globe and across this amazing country I call home. I’ve climbed mountains, sailed oceans, laid my eyes upon many of the world’s greatest wonders, danced inside castles and listened to symphonies within beautiful, old and historic halls. I’m blessed, that’s for sure. By God’s grace and my parents adventurous spirits, I’ve spent most...

Life Lesson #206 ~ Choosing the Road Less Traveled

“Do what is right. Not what is easy.” ~ Unknown Knowing what’s right and having the courage to follow through with it can be two totally different things, can they not? As a little girl.my mama used to read to me. She read often and kept my library diverse, expanding my imagination daily. Robin Hood was absolutely one of my favorite bedtime stories. It probably goes without saying, Disney’s 1973 animated classic adaptation is hands down one of my all time #1 all time most loved films. Well, right after The Rescuers, that is.But getting back on topic Disney’s version of Robin Hood stands out as something rather special in my life. My poor record player probably felt worn, slap out most days...I mean I’d play my LP over and over and over again. I knew every word, every song and every move our dear hero took on his way to freeing the good folks of Nottingham. To be honest, the movie itself is rather clever in its adaptation of this legendary character, if I do say so myself. T...

Life Lesson #200 ~ Jealousy

"When people are intimidated  by your strength and happiness, they'll try and break you down, and break your spirit. Remember, it's a reflection of their weakness, and not a reflection of you." ~ Free Spirited We have a saying here in the South. Truthfully it's probably where 'Bless your heart' originated. See, while we're biting our tongues, mama's raisin' isn't forgotten. When folks are acting all high and mighty and being ugly we simply remind ourselves to kill 'em with kindness. Lord have mercy! This task may be really difficult at times, but the truth is, you catch way more flies with honey than you do with vinegar, that's for sure. Now when it comes to those who ain't acting like they got good sense or feeling the need to make a mountain out of a molehill, well you just gotta remind yourself, "more Jesus, less drama." Mama didn't raise no fool... I can assure y'all of that. When gossip shows her...
